What does a phone consultation for diagnosing tonsillitis and bronchitis look like?
You register at the Dimedic online clinic and fill out a short initial form describing your symptoms. If possible, you can upload a photo of your throat (instructions included in the form).
If you’re having trouble speaking – which can occur with tonsillitis (less often with bronchitis) – describe your health issue as thoroughly as possible in the form.
If you have test results confirming a respiratory infection, upload a photo of the result.

After paying for the consultation, a doctor will call you within your selected time window. Our clinic operates 7 days a week, including holidays, and doctors conduct phone consultations from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. They call patients from the number +48 426 412 041 – save it so you’ll know it’s the doctor calling.

After the consultation, you'll receive medical recommendations and – if the doctor deems it necessary – an e-prescription for medications used to treat bronchitis or tonsillitis, and an e-sick note (ZUS-ZLA) for your recovery time.

Tonsillitis and bronchitis: medical consultation 7 days a week
Sore throat, coughing, shortness of breath, fatigue, fever – these are just a few symptoms that may indicate tonsillitis or bronchitis.
Because these conditions can be hard to distinguish in their early stages, we offer online phone consultations aimed at diagnosing and treating both.

Treating tonsillitis
Tonsillitis, also known as inflammation of the tonsils, can resemble viral throat infections but may require very different treatment depending on whether the cause is viral or bacterial.

Medications for viral tonsillitis
If the infection is viral, treatment focuses on symptom relief and immune support, including:

Rest – to help the body fight the virus

Hydration – to keep the throat moist and prevent dehydration

Pain and fever relief – using paracetamol or ibuprofen

Throat gargles – with saline, sage, or chamomile to soothe irritation

In special cases like herpangina (caused by herpes viruses), antivirals may be recommended, depending on the doctor’s assessment.

Medications for bacterial tonsillitis
When tonsillitis is bacterial (commonly caused by Streptococcus pyogenes), antibiotics are required. The most commonly prescribed include:

Phenoxymethylpenicillin – first-line oral antibiotic

First-generation cephalosporins – for penicillin-allergic patients (e.g., cefadroxil, cephalexin)

Macrolides – such as erythromycin or clarithromycin, for patients allergic to penicillin

Antibiotics should be taken for the full prescribed duration (usually 10 days) to prevent recurrence or complications.

Treating bronchitis
Bronchitis is inflammation of the airways and can be viral, bacterial, or caused by irritants. Treatment depends on the cause and symptom severity.

With Dimedic’s modern telemedicine tools, bronchitis can be diagnosed and treated remotely, eliminating the need to visit a clinic in person. Based on your symptom description and medical history, the doctor can determine whether the infection is viral or bacterial and suggest appropriate treatment.

Medications for viral bronchitis
Since most cases are viral, antibiotics are not used. Instead, supportive care includes:

Rest – essential to help your body recover

Hydration – to thin mucus and ease coughing

Expectorants – syrups (OTC or custom-made with an e-prescription) to help clear bronchial secretions

Air humidification – using a humidifier or wet towels on radiators to ease airway irritation

Inhalation therapy – with eucalyptus or peppermint oils to reduce inflammation and support breathing

In specific cases (e.g. suspected flu virus), antiviral treatment may be considered.

Medications for bacterial bronchitis
If symptoms suggest a bacterial infection – especially if a dry cough persists beyond 3 days or if high fever is present – the doctor may prescribe antibiotics such as:

Amoxicillin – commonly used, effective for many respiratory bacteria

Doxycycline – often used in penicillin-allergic patients

Clarithromycin – a macrolide used as an alternative when first-line treatments are ineffective

The choice of antibiotic and dosage depends on the clinical assessment. It’s important to complete the full treatment course to avoid relapse or bacterial resistance.

Why you should talk to a doctor early
Tonsillitis and bronchitis can present with similar early symptoms and may even be caused by similar viral pathogens. That’s why they can be tricky to differentiate without medical expertise.

If you suspect tonsillitis, uploading a throat photo in the form can help the doctor diagnose more accurately. If you hear a rattling sound in your chest, you may be dealing with bronchitis.

Getting medical help early can not only improve your comfort and shorten recovery but also prevent complications and the need for antibiotics later. Ignoring viral symptoms can lead to bacterial superinfections of the throat or bronchi.

How much does a phone consultation for tonsillitis or bronchitis cost at Dimedic?
The price of a phone consultation with a GP at Dimedic is a maximum of 99.99 PLN.
Dimedic is a private telemedicine clinic, so we provide care outside of public clinic hours, on weekends, and during holidays.

Our doctors are available every day from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and calls are made from +48 426 412 041. You can select your preferred time slot.

If you’re experiencing voice loss (which can happen with tonsillitis), make sure to describe your symptoms clearly in the form — it will make it easier for the doctor to help you.

Will I get an e-prescription and sick leave after a consultation?
Yes – if the doctor decides you need prescription medication, you’ll receive an e-prescription by email.

If you require sick leave, the doctor can issue a ZUS-ZLA electronic sick note after assessing your symptoms and condition.

If you have an Internet Patient Account (IKP), you’ll find your e-prescription, medical notes, and sick leave document there. You’ll also get an SMS confirmation.

All documents issued by Dimedic doctors are stored in your online Patient Panel.
