What should you do to consult an ear problem with a doctor over the phone?

First and foremost, you need to:

Register at the Dimedic online clinic and fill out the preliminary form, where you can indicate your symptoms and a description that may help the doctor make a better diagnosis;

Remember: the more details you provide, the more precisely the doctor can understand your problem. If you suffer from chronic ear issues like external or inner ear infections, you may attach, for example, an antibiogram;

If your ear problems result from poor hygiene (or you suspect so), don’t forget to mention this in the form;

Ear problems may also be caused by other conditions, such as inflammation in the jaw area – be sure to include all your symptoms in the medical interview;

After paying for the consultation, a doctor will contact you within your chosen time slot (Dimedic operates 7 days a week, including holidays, and doctors conduct consultations from 7 AM to 10 PM). Doctors call patients from the number +48 426 412 041 (save it in your phone – you’ll know who’s calling);

After the consultation, you’ll receive medical recommendations and – if deemed necessary by the doctor – an e-prescription for medications used to treat ear issues (ENT-related), as well as an electronic sick note for recovery time.

Ear problems: telephone medical consultation, even on weekends

Ears are delicate organs. You usually only remember about them when… something goes wrong. Even cleaning them (or rather, cleaning them incorrectly) can lead to infection.

If you feel pain, itching, or ringing, it’s worth consulting a doctor who can diagnose the issue based on a thorough medical interview and prescribe appropriate medication. Curious how it works?

What diseases can affect your ears?

One of the most common causes of ear issues is so-called exposure to wind. Many people have experienced ear pain due to riding with an open car window or going outside with wet hair in poor weather. Additionally...

Caring for your ears (including proper hygiene) is crucial, as poor practices can cause damage. It is no longer recommended to clean ears with cotton swabs, especially if done carelessly. More and more often, drops that dissolve earwax are available in pharmacies and drugstores.

Unfortunately, ear infections are also a common cause of ear issues. These can affect the outer, middle, or inner ear. A weakened immune system, allergies, or long-term stress can wreak havoc in your body, making you more susceptible to viruses and bacteria. Ear problems can be cyclical and chronic. Even dental issues can cause inflammation that radiates to the ears.

And what if severe ear pain hits you on the weekend? Fortunately, Dimedic.eu offers teleconsultations, allowing you to contact a doctor seven days a week!

Suspect ear problems? See if you have these symptoms!

The most obvious symptoms are likely pain or itching. But ear problems come with a wide range of symptoms. In case of ear infection, you may also experience:

A feeling of a foreign body in the ear;

Ringing in the ears;

Hearing loss;

A feeling of a blocked ear;

Sleep disturbances;

Fluid discharge from the ear;

Dizziness;

Migraines;

High fever;

Drowsiness;

Apathy;

Irritability;

Nausea or diarrhea.

Ear diseases are often associated with other illnesses – or even current infections like the flu. That’s why consulting a doctor is essential. You know it’s not worth taking risks with ear health – no one wants to suffer hearing damage.

What to do about itchy ears?

Itching may often result from poor ear hygiene. If you rarely clean your ears or use cotton swabs improperly, pressing too deep, your body may react. But that’s not the only cause.

Itching can also be a symptom of an emerging infection, typically of the middle or outer ear. Ear issues may also involve the skin – fungal infections often appear in sensitive areas like the ear or ear canal. If itching occurs, it may also be a sign of an allergic reaction.

People with vision impairments who wear corrective glasses may also experience this. Mechanical irritation from cosmetics (like shampoos or bath gels) can damage the delicate outer ear structure. Conclusion?

Although ear problems are often chronic, they depend heavily on proper treatment and consistent medication use. It might not feel necessary once the pain subsides – but sticking to the prescribed treatment is key to preventing recurrence.

What medications can a doctor prescribe for ear pain?

This depends largely on your symptoms. If you have only pain and swelling, but no high fever or other symptoms, the doctor may prescribe antibiotic ear drops. If the infection spreads, oral antibiotics may be introduced to support your body internally.

In specific cases, the following are recommended:

For external ear infection: topical antibiotics like aminoglycosides (gentamicin, neomycin) or fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin);

For immediate pain relief: over-the-counter NSAIDs;

For ear blockage: ear irrigation to remove built-up discharge;

For inner ear infection: penicillin or lincosamide-based antibiotics, along with antipyretic and pain-relieving medication;

For contact allergies: identify and eliminate the allergen, and use antihistamines to reduce itching and swelling;

For fungal ear infections: antifungals such as fluconazole or nystatin, and removal of discharge contributing to fungal growth.

Will a teleconsultation help with ear problems?

Absolutely – just like in other conditions, timely access to a doctor is key to stopping the spread of infection. It’s especially convenient if you’re unwell – with a rapidly progressing viral or bacterial ear infection, the last thing you want is to travel to a clinic.

With earaches, which can be truly exhausting, sometimes you just don’t have the energy for anything. Based on your symptoms, a doctor can reliably assess whether you're dealing with a bacterial or viral infection and initiate treatment. Ear infections may also be linked to other illnesses like colds or flu, so quick action is critical.

Remember to use ear drops and medication prescribed by your Dimedic doctor regularly.

Consistency in treatment is very important for ear problems, which unfortunately tend to recur.

How much does a phone consultation for ear pain cost?

A phone consultation with a family doctor online at Dimedic costs a maximum of 99.99 PLN. Dimedic.eu is a private clinic, so we provide medical services both outside of regular NFZ clinic hours and on weekends and holidays. Our doctors work every day from 7 AM to 10 PM and call patients from the number 426 412 041. You can choose your preferred time slot for the consultation. It’s truly convenient.

Can you get a sick note and prescription after a medical consultation for ear problems?

Of course – if the doctor determines it’s necessary. They will certainly ask about your work routine – after all, you won’t be able to focus if you’re experiencing hearing issues, ear pain, and fever. If the medications prescribed are prescription-only, that’s not a problem.

All documents (including a sick note – electronic ZUS-ZLA form – if needed) will be sent to your email after the consultation. If you have an Internet Patient Account (IKP), your e-prescription, recommendations, and other documents (e.g., ZUS-ZLA) will be available there, with confirmation sent by SMS.

All documents issued by Dimedic doctors can also be found in your Patient Panel in our online clinic.

Convenient, right? :)
